The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) issued a fatwa (edict) on smoking, arguing tobacco is an addictive substance that causes many diseases. And now smoking should be considered a sin for pregnant women and children.
Its almost a year i didn’t buy any cigarettes. But few days ago I decided to buy a cigarettes (A-Mild), and before I had time to smoke, I’ve got news about MUI’s edict on smoking. Damn.
„Haram!“
Some people said it ridiculous. They said, if smoker has enter the hell, then which hell should they go? the MUI’s hell or God’s hell. Hahaha..
This edict is for moslem of course, but here I got Christian view about smoking. For example about the Bible commands Christian to not allow their bodies to become „mastered“ by anything. „Everything is permissible for me – but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me – but I will not be mastered by anything“ (1 Corinthians 6:12).
For me as an ex-smoker this edict at least will create some form of boundary so that the people cannot smoke as they please. I believe cigarette factories will not go bankrupt because of this edict, may be just a slight decrease income. Then how about their employees? If there is a reduction of employees.
What do you think?
